5 tips to a low waste bathroom

According to the EPA Americans produce roughly 1700 pounds of waste per year!!!! Say what!!!! One way to considerably reduce your waste is to start in your bathroom. . Plastic waste is the greatest problem in the bathroom, but it can often be avoided providing you choose the right products. Here are my 5 best tips for less waste in your bathroom.

TIP 1- SWAP YOUR TOOTHBRUSH

One super simple swap is your toothbrush! The dentist recommends a new tooth brush every 3 months so thats 4 brushes a year that are thrown away. That translates to millions of toothbrushes a year that are thrown away! If you use a bamboo toothbrush instead, you avoid plastic waste. Bamboo is a great sustainable alternative- I try to buy bamboo everything if I can. Grab a bamboo toothbrush here -> Shop Now at Zero Waste Store

TIP 2- USE SOAP BARS

Use bars of soap! Skipped the ultra fragrance plastic bottles of soap! All the stuff I mentioned above are also true for your soaps. This is one sneaky way corporations make products s.o cheap and loaded with harmful ingredients. Drop the crap and switch to organic soap bars! Shop for your soap bars here ->Shop Now at Zero Waste Store

TIP 3- STAINLESS STEEL RAZOR

Stainless Steel Razor! OMG I am in love with my razor!! I stopped using plastic razors over   3 years ago and will never go back. My skin is so soft, I literally get the best shave ever. Yes, there my be a slight learning curve but once you try it you’ll never go back!

TIP 4- USE SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER BARS

Make the switch from plastic bottled shampoo & conditioner to using “BARS”- I love them, and my hair is so healthy and clean. These are often made with good-organic ingrediants! Loose the sulfates and parabens that clog your hair and leave build up. This stuff is horrible for you!! It disrupts your endocrine system causing a boatload of issues. The added bonus of using bars is that you’re also reducing your waste, and at the same time making yourself just a little bit healthier.  If you literally google parabens, and there is boat loads of information about why parabens so are bad its too many to list here. The difficult part is there are literally found in so many products! Its hard to escape! And if you really want to get educated on this stuff google sulfates next! Buy shampoo and conditioner bars here -> Shop Now at Zero Waste Store !

TIP 5- REUSABLE MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS

Female menstrual hygiene is waste-intensive point blank! Disposable feminine hygiene products are typically made of a combination of plastic, cotton, and other materials that are not easily biodegradable, meaning they can take hundreds of years to break down in landfills. Additionally, the packaging and wrapping materials for these products also contribute to waste. However, now there are many eco-friendly and reusable menstrual products available, such as menstrual cups and cloth pads, which can significantly reduce waste! Personally, I’ve been using my “diva” menstrual cup for over 5 years and I absolutely love it! A few of my friends swear by their reusable period panties too! Shop Now at Zero Waste Store for amazing menstrual products.
